Marissa Mekelburg MS, RDN, CLT, HHP
Marissa Mekelburg is Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Functional Nutrition Practitioner, Certified LEAP Therapist and Digestive Health Expert with over 15 years of experience in helping clients restore their health through personalized nutrition and lifestyle programs based upon functional nutrition and a "food as medicine" approach.

Marissa is the founder and owner of Wholistic Works, LLC a virtual functional nutrition and holistic health practice based in Colorado. Her practice is known for its whole person approach - focusing on the entire person instead of just a diagnosis and addressing not only nutrition but lifestyle factors such as sleep, stress, and exercise that contribute to ongoing health issues. Marissa's primary specialty is digestive health (with a primary focus on IBS), food sensitivities and autoimmune conditions.

Marissa earned her undergraduate degree in dietetics and completed her internship at the University of Northern Colorado, and earned her master's degree in Exercise Science and Health Promotion through

California University of Pennsylvania. She has completed several additional advanced certifications (and continues to increase her knowledge yearly) in functional nutrition, holistic health and is a Certified LEAP Therapist (CLT) which is advanced clinical training in immunology, adverse food reactions, food induced inflammatory conditions and the practical application of dietary treatment for the food-sensitive patient.

On a Personal Note

Admittedly just because a practitioner has a lot of experience, education and so forth doesn't necessarily mean that they "get it" and you may wondering about this right now. I would like to share with you my personal story; the reason behind why I'm passionate about the work that I do and how I do it.

You see, many years ago, I went through my own health crisis. I suffered from daily migraines, severe muscle and joint pain, horrible fatigue yet I couldn't sleep at night, thinning hair, brain fog, severe digestive issues and was even bed ridden for several months. I saw 14 physicians and specialists over the course of two years with no real answers; I received a lot of medications and even more diagnoses. Depending upon the specialist, I was labeled with having Crohn's Disease, IBS, microscopic colitis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis and mini strokes.

Not one of these practitioners talked to me about food sensitivities, inflammation, the health of the gut or how all of my symptoms might be linked together. Instead all they wanted to do, was lump my symptoms in a box so that they could give it a name and prescribe a medication. All I knew, was there had to be a better way and so began my journey of getting my health back.

Being a dietitian specializing in functional nutrition is a second career for me because it saved my life and I want to pay it forward.

When you work with me, you work with someone who sees YOU, the WHOLE person, not just a diagnosis or a set of symptoms. You get someone who understands what it's like to be in your shoes with chronic health issues plus you get all of my knowledge and years of experience helping hundreds of others just like you.

Together we will work to figure out what the root causes are for your health concerns; you will be treated with respect, you will be listened to AND heard and all recommendations will be personally tailored to you and your unique situation. I’m passionate about treating people this way because it’s the way that I didn’t get treated when I was ill and wish someone would have.

So when I get told that I am different than most dietitians, I choose to take that as a compliment and work hard to set myself apart! I look forward to working with you on your journey.

Warmly,

Marissa
